GHANAIAN poet Comfort N.A. Okyere has been appointed Chief Editor for the 8th cycle of the Writers Space Africa (WSA) Monthly Literary Magazine. Known by her pen name, ‘Adwoa’s WriteHand,’ Okyere steps into the role following the tenure of Zimbabwean editor Comfort Nyati, SDB, who led the 5th and 7th editorial cycles.
The WSA Magazine, established in 2017, is a celebrated platform showcasing both established and emerging African literary voices. Comfort Okyere’s leadership promises a fresh wave of literary professionalism and creative excellence.
Comfort first gained recognition in the WSA community in 2022 with her debut poem, MEMORIES. In September 2024, she served as guest Chief Editor for the magazine’s Silent Battles edition. Her versatility also shone as the master of ceremonies at the 2023 African Writers Awards in Accra, Ghana.
A graduate of the University of Ghana with a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, Okyere is passionate about writing, music, books, climate action, and clean energy advocacy. ‘Writing is my passion and sanctuary—a privilege I cherish deeply,’ she said.
WSA also announced a dynamic editorial team from across the continent to support Okyere. The team includes celebrated writers such as:
- Adol Akuei (Kenya): Author of Echoes of a Refugee Soul and co-founder of Ink of Hope Publishers.
- Blessing Amatemeso (Nigeria): Wakini Kuria Prize runner-up for Children’s Literature in 2022.
- Halieo Motanyane (Lesotho): Acclaimed Sesotho and English children’s book author and Wakini Kuria Prize judge.
- Michelle Engelbrecht (South Africa): Novelist and short story writer under the pen name Micah Angel.
- Grace Tendo (Uganda): Wakini Kuria Prize runner-up in 2023.
This collaboration of literary talents is set to elevate the magazine’s reputation as a hub for diverse African storytelling. The team aims to continue amplifying the voices of African writers, fostering creativity, and promoting literary excellence across the continent.
With a strong vision and a talented team, Comfort Okyere’s leadership marks a promising chapter for Writers Space Africa Magazine.
