By Inusa Ndahi, Maiduguri

SENATOR Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), particularly the Correspondents’ Chapel in Maiduguri, over the death of veteran journalist, Haruna Dauda Biu.

Biu, a former Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel in Borno state, was a Hausa Reporter with Voice of America (VOA), until his death last Sunday after a protracted illness.

In a condolence message signed by his media aide, Junaid Jibril Maiva, Senator Ndume described the late Haruna Biu as a dedicated journalist who used the power of the press to give voice to the concerns of the people.

He noted that deceased was among those few patriotic media professionals who courageously engaged with political actors for the good of society.

The lawmaker fondly recalled his first interaction with Haruna Dauda Biu during his early political journey. “I still remember when the deceased asked me some of the most thought-provoking questions about my plans for the people of Gwoza, Chibok, and Damboa when I was seeking election into the House of Representatives,” Ndume said.

He also reminisced about one of their recent meetings where Haruna Biu interviewed him on national issues. “It was always a pleasure engaging with Haruna. He was professional, bold, and deeply committed to the ethics of journalism.”

Senator Ndume, who has always held the media in high regard, prayed for the repose of Haruna’s soul and strength for his family, friends, and colleagues to bear the irreparable loss.

“On behalf of my family, the good people of Borno South, and my entire team, I extend our deepest condolences to the family of the late Haruna Dauda Biu, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Correspondents’ Chapel and all those who knew and worked with him. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.” Ndume stated.
