Zulum Mourns BOSU Students, Pledges to Enforce Ban on Trailers into the Metropolis

BORNO State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Borno State University (BOSU) community as well as parents and guardians of students affected by the tragic motor accident along Maiduguri-Damaturu road.

The accident which occurred at Njimtilo area on Wednesday evening claimed the lives of two students, left 16 critically injured. However, eight of the affected students have been discharged and are recuperating.

This was contained in a press statement signed by the Spokesperson to the Governor, Mallam Dauda Iliya, a copy which was made available to our Correspondent on Thursday in Maiduguri.

“I extend my deepest sympathies to families of the affected students, the management, staff, and students of Borno State University over this unfortunate incident,” Governor Zulum said.

“I am deeply touched by this tragic accident involving a students’ bus and a trailer, which occurred as the students were returning after completing their examinations.”

In response to the incident, Governor Zulum has directed the Ministry of Works to expedite the completion of the ongoing Maiduguri Trailer Park project.

He also announced that the state government will soon enforce a ban on trailers and other heavy vehicles from accessing the city center to minimize future accidents.

“I have instructed the Ministry of Works to ensure the immediate completion of the trailer park. Once operational, trailers will no longer be permitted into the city centre, a move aimed at reducing intra-city road accidents within the metropolis,” the governor reiterated.

“Borno State government will take deliberate and decisive measures to prevent a recurrence of such a tragic incident.”

Governor Zulum further announced that the state government would cover all medical expenses for the injured students currently receiving treatment.

He also pledged to personally visit the victims in the hospital to sympathize with them and their families.

The governor wished the injured students a swift recovery and assured the public of government’s commitment to improving road safety measures across the state.
